"An Ideal Husband" Playing at Lionheart Theatre

Oscar Wilde's heartwarming comedy "An Ideal Husband" will be presented by The Lyceum Project April 8 through 10 at the Lionheart Theatre in Historic Norcross.

Oscar Wilde’s "An Ideal Husband" preformed by the new theatre company, The Lyceum Project, at our very own Lionheart Theatre this weekend. This play is one of Wilde’s four “society comedies” written in the 1890s.

With the same wit and high humor as it’s sister play, "The Importance of Being Earnest," "An Ideal Husband" tugs at the heart strings while giving you a few good laughs. The play causes us to explore our desire to be truly known without being completely known. What if the person that you felt closest to knew absolutely everything about you?

One of the very interesting aspects of this production is it’s over all presentation. There is no backstage. The audience watches the actors as well as the characters they play. This is an ingenious way to see a Wilde play coming and going.

The cast for this weekend’s performance includes: Merry Peterson (Mrs. Marchmont/Mason), Corinna Rezzelle (Lady Basildon/Maid), John Keenan (Lord Caversham),  Tafee Patterson (Lady Chiltern), Heather Rule (Mabel Chiltern), Betty Mitchell (Lady Markby), LeeAnna Lambert (Mrs. Chevely), Houston McPherson (Viscount de Nanjac/Phipps), Jonathan Strickland (Sir Robert Chiltern) and John O’Keefe (Lord Goring).

New to the Atlanta, and excited to be presenting their first performance, The Lyceum Project is a gypsy theatre company. Intentionally without a home of their own, they take their productions around the Atlanta area and perform in already existing theatre venues. This benefits them, as well as the theatres who can provide the space during times they would otherwise be dark.

Lyceum is the brainchild of three partners: Sarah Craig, Artistic Director and director of "An Ideal Husband," Ariel Stewart, Managing Director, and Lina Lane, currently residing in New York City but moving to Atlanta soon. Craig explained that there is a lot of professional theatre talent in Atlanta, not only in the way of actors who perform locally but also set, costume and lighting designers. Lyceum is excited about their approach to theatre. “It’s a good way of serving the community, by working along side existing theatres instead of competing with them," she said.

This season The Lyceum Project is partnering with the Academy Theatre who is providing them with financial backing. In "An Ideal Husband" the lighting design is by Academy’s own Robert Drake.
