YMCA Offers Exercise Classes Designed Just for Seniors

The Peachtree Corners facility has a number of classes to help those 50 and over to stay fit. And it's not all about exercise, there are volunteer opportunities and social events too.

Are you over 50? Are you looking to get healthy? Stay fit? Learn a new skill? Meet new friends?

Robert Fowler Family YMCA has a variety of programs and services just for you,  including water exercise, yoga, tai chi, pilates, walking clubs, strength training, aerobics, stretching and toning classes, volunteer opportunities, and social events.

The Y’s active older adult programs are designed for men and women in their 50s and older.  “As you age, maintaining an active lifestyle is very important. Regular exercise can help boost energy, reduce risk of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers, and help manage symptoms of illness or pain.

And it’s not only good for your body—it’s also good for your mind and mood. At the Y, there are lots of ways to be more active and boost your fitness,” said Gina Lembo, Wellness Director.

“Our social events help older adults build relationships and ties that last a lifetime,” said Kathi Jones, Senior Coordinator. “We offer many socialization opportunities such as monthly movie day, monthly day trips, lunch and learn, canasta, bridge and knitting groups, and hanging out in the senior family center shooting pool, playing ping pong and enjoying one another’s company."
