Community Corner

Staying Healthy at Fowler YMCA

The local Y offers a variety of personal and group fitness activities, and on March 25 the Peachtree Corners facility is offering health screening tests.

One of the ways the YMCA brings health care into our communities is through health screenings, which provide convenient, easy access to a variety of common screening tests for numerous medical conditions and overall health.

Health screenings can detect many medical conditions at an early stage before symptoms are present. Early detection and treatment can improve your quality of life and, in many cases, even save your life.

On March 25 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Fowler YMCA will host HealthCheck Services, Inc. who will provide a screening service for a convenient, reliable, and low cost way to check your health. Screening costs start at $40.

At the time of the screening, HealthCheck will obtain a small blood sample from you. The sample is sent to Quest Diagnostics, a nationally recognized and licensed clinical laboratory, for a comprehensive series of tests.

These accurate tests detect such health problems as heart disease, diabetes, anemia, nutritional abnormalities, infections, high cholesterol, and even some forms of cancer. In addition, they check the function of vital organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and thyroid.

HealthCheck’s medical director, a licensed Georgia M.D., will review your tests results and alert you of any abnormalities or potential health risks. Each test will be explained in easy-to-understand terms and will include educational materials that will help you understand your HealthCheck results.

Your results are strictly confidential and are sent directly to you. The health screening is open to the community, so invite your family and friends. For more information, contact Ginal Lembo, Wellness Director at ginal@ymcaatlanta.org
