Renowned Atlanta Sculpturist Returns June 1 to Norcross

A compelling multi-media exhibit created by Midtown artist Corrina Sephora Mensoff will be held at the Norcross Community and Cultural Arts Center this weekend.

The name Corrina Sephora Mensoff may be familiar to Norcross arts lovers: The Midtown artist was part of the city's Blue Trees Project in April. She is slated to return this weekend to exhibit a compelling multi-media exhibit titled "Flowing as Water: Vessels of Freedom."

The nationally renowned artist's gallery exhibit opens June 1, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and accompanied by jazz duo Heshima & Pino.

Mensoff's exhibit will reflect her metalwork, paintings and textile work. One of only 50 women blacksmiths in the country, the artist was certified in the craft in the mid 1990s.

She transforms metal into sculpture pieces that often depict boats and ships which she uses as metaphors and storytelling tools.

In her exhibit “Flowing as Water: Vessels of Freedom,” Mensoff melds fabric, paints, metal and her vivid imagination into metaphorical sculptures that illustrate life journeys and the power of dreams.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and outdoors nationally and regionally, such as the Mason Murer Fine Art Gallery in Atlanta, outdoor exhibits in Sandy Springs, The Atlanta Belt Line, and in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Charleston, S.C.

The Atlanta Botanical Gardens also commissioned her to design and fabricate the gates that open into the Children’s & Trustees Garden, as well as an intricate sculptural element gating the Torah at the Temple Sinai in Buckhead.

Mensoff’s work is currently on display outside of the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center and may be seen by appointment. The exhibit closes July 10.

The Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center is located at 17 College St. in downtown. For exhibit hours and to make a viewing appointment, call 678-421-2049.
