Plein Air Challenge Winners Named, Art will Display in Norcross, Gwinnett

Artists gathered at various Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation locations for outdoor, on-site painting since March.

Artists gathered at various Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation (GCPR) locations for outdoor, on-site painting since March as part of the partnership with Gwinnett Parks Foundation and Tannery Row Artist Colony’sPlein Air Challenge.

The winning pieces were announced at the award ceremony on Sept. 14 and will be on tour at various locations throughout Gwinnett County. Winners:

  • In first place was Nancy Nowak for her piece titled “Morning Sparkle at McDaniel Farm"
  • Second place winner was Jill McGannon's piece called “Cypresses and Dogwood” painted at Vines Park.
  • Third place winner was Marian O’Shaughnessy with “Open the Barn Door” painted at McDaniel Farm Park. 


The first place winner received a prize of $500 from the Gwinnett Parks Foundation. 

There were also several honorable mentions that will be on display along with the winning pieces at the following locations:

Sept. 14 – Oct. 16: Tannery Row Artist Colony, 554 West Main Street, Buford.

Oct. 16 – 30:  Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, 185 Crogan Street, Lawrenceville.

Nov. 4 – 27: Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville.

Dec. 2 – 27: Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center, 4650 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Norcross.
