The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of Central and Northeast Georgia until 9 p.m.
The watch area includes Norcross and the rest of Gwinnett County.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes. A tornado warning, which has not been issued, is when one is seen or indicated on radar.
The weather service said widespread rain and thunderstorms will continue today and tonight, with some of the storms becoming severe.
Damaging winds, large hail and some tornadoes are possible. The prime time for the rough weather is this afternoon into the evening.
The watch area is generally from Athens to the west and Americus to the north. This includes all of metro Atlanta.
