First Taste of the Farmers Market

Despite a chill in the air, the community came out for opening day at Whistle Stop.

Bunches of spring onions, bags of fuzzy peaches, peppery spring mix greens and buffalo, yes, buffalo meat were among the offerings on display at the inaugural Whistle Stop farmers market yesterday.

Residents milled, chatting with farmers they hadn't ran into since last season, and kids raced around on conspicuously decorated bikes during the "bike parade."

The train passed, with its ever-present whistle, ringing in another season of supporting local farmers and digging into fresh produce and goodies. They might have a little bit of the earth left on them. That just means they're real.

Editor's note: Look for profiles of Whistle Stop vendors coming up on Norcross Patch. In July we'll have a special farmers market story written and photographed by locals kids, too! See you there.
