'Tis the Season for Helping Others

With the holiday season fast approaching, there is that warm and fuzzy feeling that one gets when giving to someone else, it could be a freshly baked cake or the ingredients to make a cake!

It’s that time of the year, when we start thinking of giving back to those less fortunate. Over the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas, I will be showcasing little-known organization that are in need of your support.  These organizations may not be as familiar as United Way, The Red Cross but they are supporting the same causes right in our own backyards.  These little-known organizations know these families by name and support them with a personal tender touch.

Sistas Circle Inc. provides weekly enrichment support group to empower teenage girls 11 to 17 year olds and a monthly empowerment group meeting for women of all ages.  This organization also provides care packet with household items and community resources to survivors of domestic violence as they transition from abusive relationships. In addition, Sistas Circle host yearly events to honor survivors of domestic violence and to raise awareness about the epidemic of Teen Violence and Sexual Exploitation of children.

Sistas Circle is hosting a food drive to provide food baskets to fifty (50) Senior Citizens and fifty (50) families in need all in the Gwinnett area for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The following suggested items are needed but not limited to:

Peas, beans, Mac & cheese, cornbread mix, flour, eggs, sugar, stuffing, oil, potatoes, rice, can vegetables, cranberry sauce, ham, turkey and other meats.

Food baskets will be prepared and distributed on Nov.19th for Thanksgiving and again on December 17th for Christmas.
