GNLI Alumni Association Gains Momentum

The Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership Institute has a large network of alumni--and they're still growing. See what activities they have planned to help support the community.

The Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership Institute Alumni Association (GNLIAA) is 300+ members strong--and growing. Currently in its second year, the Association has plans to expand its reach to graduating classes from the late '90s to the early '00s.

“GNLI has come a long way in contributing empowerment and sustainability to the Gwinnett community,” said GNLI Alumni Association President Glen Williams. He further stated that, “The incoming GNLI Class of 2012 has 30 participants, and is by far, the biggest class in GNLI’s 17-year history. With all these successful initiatives under our belts, we can now turn our attention to building an association with impressive membership incentives and continued service opportunities.”

Association members plan to host quarterly events that benefit projects launched as part of the overall program purpose.  “Investing in the community is the cornerstone of the GNLI program,” said Williams. One of the first projects to benefit from this initiative is the S.O.S. Program, or Save Our Seniors, a development of the GNLI Class of 2010 designed to assist seniors in the county with transportation and other identified human services needs.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Association will host its 2nd Annual Networking Mixer that will bring together past GNLI graduates, the incoming Class of 2012 and numerous Gwinnett County leaders, as well as organizers of the county’s stellar give back volunteer program. Gwinnett County’s Great Days of Service will be on hand to discuss and sign-up volunteers for its annual two-day event.

The Networking Mixer is open to citizens who are interested in serving as leaders in the county, and will be held 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at Marlow’s Tavern, 1950 Satellite Boulevard in Duluth. Admission is $5 at the door.
