Gwinnett – Decisions regarding the best Medicare prescription drug program, health plan or supplement plan can be overwhelming.  GeorgiaCares is a volunteer-based program that provides free, unbiased and factual information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers.

A GeorgiaCares counselor will be on-site at the Gwinnett Council For Seniors Information Center, 186 E Pike Street, Lawrenceville on the first Monday of every month from 10:00 a.m until 2:00 p.m. to provide face-to-face assistance with navigating the Medicare maze or answering general Medicare questions. The counselors help individuals make informed decisions about such topics as Medicare Part D (drug coverage), Medicare Health Plans or Medicare Supplement coverage, as well as help clients chose the exact plan that meets their needs best.

One client, Mr. Donald G.  told his counselor how valuable this service was to him. “I know you talk to (and will talk to) many, many people day in and day out, but, I want you to know that you made me feel like I was the only one in your world each time we talked.  I felt like you were family—truly wanting me to make the best decision for my individual situation.” It’s this type of personal service that each GeorgiaCares client can expect.

Interested individuals should call the Gwinnett Council For Seniors at 770-822-5147 to make an appointment. If more immediate help is needed, call the GeorgiaCares Hotline at 1-866-552-4464 and chose option #4.

GeorgiaCares is the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and SMP (formerly Senior Medicare Patrol). It is a private-public partnership administered by the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Aging Services (DAS).
