A weather system siren test for the city of Norcross has been scheduled for Sunday, May 20, at 1 p.m. According to message the Norcross Police Department sent Friday through Nixle, the test was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved due to the Norcross Car Show taking place downtown that day. The message notes that the test will not take place if a severe weather advisory is issued for the city. The National Weather Service predicts Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high of 85 degrees, though. Don’t miss any Norcross news. Business hours are now back to its original schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After adding an hour to its regular schedule for three months, Norcross City Hall has changed its office hours back to the old time. Starting June 1, the hours at city hall will revert back to being 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This includes drive-thru, phone and walk-in hours. The city stated through a Norcross Neighbors newsletter that one exception would be for utility due dates. On utility billing due dates and utility cutoff dates, the city's billing offices would be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Since March, office hours had been extended to 6 p.m. as a pilot program in conjunction with the Clean Air Campaign. The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has awarded the Norcross Police Department a $10,000 public safety partnership grant. The incentive grant is designed for smaller law enforcement agences that have partnered with GOHS and excelled making the communities safer, whether it's through participation in highway safety intiatives or patrolling neighborhoods, according to a press release from Nocross PD spokesman Capt. Elected officials in each of the 10 Atlanta-area counties will be holding free "wireside chats" in June to answer citizens' questions on the upcoming TSPLOST vote, according to a news release.
