Welcome to Patch's Virtual Book Club

Welcome to Patch’s new book blog! My goal is to get everyone excited about reading, while giving great book recommendations and holding a virtual book club environment where we follow two books a month.

Living near a city like Atlanta, there are plenty of opportunities to see authors, hear readings and go to events that promote a healthy reading atmosphere. So I'll keep you up to date on what's going on around town.

I have a wide range of types of books that interest me and will try to make sure we mix it up and hit most of the genres.  But I insist that if a book pops up you wouldn’t normally read, please give it a chance. You just never know if you will enjoy it and find your new favorite author! Thinking, and reading, outside the box is half the fun.

I'll start September off by reading Montana Sky by Nora Roberts. There are few people who don’t like Nora, simply because she is an author that engages her reading audience but also covers almost every genre out there.

This book is about a man, Jack Mercy, who left behind a ranch worth twenty million dollars to his three daughters. Now these are not average sisters, as they were born to three different mothers and don’t know about each other. So they come together for the reading of the will and find out that to inherit any money, they must all live together on the ranch for one year.

All three sisters are extremely different and vary from Tess, who is from Hollywood, to Lily, who is on the run from her abusive ex-husband, to Willa, who actually grew up on the ranch and finds this situation intrusive. They will try and live together as a family and protect each other because there is an enemy trying to hurt them.

Let’s share a goal of finishing this book by the end of the month.

Next week I'm going to give three book recommendations and will stick with our author, Nora Roberts. She has so many to choose from that it won’t be difficult. I've enjoyed her writing for a long time and will pick books that vary in taste and style.

For now, let me leave you with a few questions:

  • Do you have a book suggestion?
  • What do you think of Nora Roberts?
  • What book has influenced you the most, and why?

Hope that you enjoy this book and I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!

Fun! I've always wanted to be part of a book club, but just don't have the time to actually go to any meetings, this will be perfect! Will pick up Montana Sky this weekend, thanks for the suggestion!

That's great, Tracey! If we can get a few more people to read the book and discuss it, this will be a really fun blog :)

I haven't ever been part of a book club but I love to read! This should be fun! I have downloaded the book on my iPad and plan to get started tonight.

It's definitely one of those books that I would read more than once. Do you read her books often?

I'm not into Nora Roberts books but will check you out for some other books. I just read Night Circus and it was fabulous!

Who's the hot chick in the picture reading the book? I might learn how to read if I can meet her.

This is a great idea! A book club for those of us too busy to attend book club meetings. Thanks, Julie!

One of my favorite things to do with some extra time is to curl up with a good book in the bunny room (most would call it a living room) while the rabbit(s) run around and explore.

I've read some of Nora Robert's work, but not this one. I'll have to see if I can find it...

I definitely agree with you Pat, there is nothing better than curling up with a good book. Gwinnett County Public Library has 2 copies available, so there will be no wait.

I may try to find time to do this. I used to love Nora Roberts and would read all her books as they came out. However, I think I have become a prude of sorts and sometimes think the love scenes get a little graphic in her romance novels. I think I'm getting old....... Obviously I haven't read the 50 shades book. I may have to pick this one up and try to join in. I have always wanted to be in a book club but never found the time.

I can understand what you mean Karen, her love scenes can get a bit steamy at times. When compared to her other books, this one is on the subdued side. Also, just remember that when she began writing she was a romance writer. So if you pick up one of her earlier books they will definitely lean towards graphic.

Reading is my passion so I am excited. I will have to admit Nora Roberts is not one of my favorites and yet so many love her books. I will try again but am excited about this "Book Club" ! Great idea. I am to start a new book and read about 2 books a week. I am excited to hear about new authors and great books.
