Storms, Warmer Temps Forecast for Norcross, Gwinnett

A cold front is expected to push across north and central Georgia this week, ushering in higher temps and possible thunderstorms by Wednesday.

A cold front is expected to push across north and central Georgia this week, ushering in warmer weather and maybe some severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

"Instability and wind shear values appear sufficient to support the development of scattered to numerous thunderstorms on Wednesday, especially during the afternoon and evening," meteorologists say in a hazardous weather statement, which applies to Gwinnett County. "Strong upper level support suggest a few storms could be severe across north and central Georgia."

In Norcross, fog may be a problem late Monday into early Tuesday, when the high is expected to reach 68, according to the NWS forecast. Wednesday holds a 100 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which could produce gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning. Low temps in the 50s by midweek should dip back to freezing at 32 degrees, by Thursday night.

Extreme north Georgia may be in for a dusting of snow as a weak system is expected to move across the area Thursday night and early Friday, according to the statement.
