Fifth graders at Meadowcreek Elementary participated in Siemens Science Day, which encourages kids to learn more about the science and math fields. The kids created lava lamps, made silly putty, and experimented with electricity and lights.

Employees of Siemens Corp. in Peachtree Corners volunteered their time for a Siemens Science Day at Meadowcreek Elementary School in Norcross.

The entire fifth grade class was invited to participate in three different demos that the Siemens volunteers conducted last Friday, Feb. 22. The Electrical Engineering station involved electricity and lights; students made silly putty at the Chemical Engineering demo; and another Chemical station showed the creation of lava lamps by mixing oil and water.

"We realize kids get excited about the science and math behind it, and that's our goal: To encourage children to go into the science and math fields, which is what Siemens does since we're a global engineering company," said David Sanabria, a sales engineer at Siemens. He assisted students in the lava-lamp making and the electro-lights stations.

"It's very rewarding," he continued, adding that Meadowcreek is his third school he's volunteered for in Siemens Science Day. "We wanted to give back to a Norcross school since it's in the area."
