Norcross Inaugurates 3 Members to City Council

Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Hixson and councilmen David McLeroy and Keith Shewbert were sworn in to office during the council's regular January meeting held Monday. Former councilman Ross Kaul was recognized for the past two terms he served.

Norcross welcomed three returning members to the city council Monday during its January meeting.

Mayor Pro Tem Andrew Hixson and councilmen David McLeroy and Keith Shewbert were sworn into office in an inauguration ceremony led by Norcross Municipal Court Judge Kenneth E. Wickham II.

McLeroy has been on the council for 10 years, Hixson has served two terms, and Shewbert served one term from 2006 to 2008. Shewbert, who owns 45 South Cafe in downtown Norcross, decided to run in the 2012 general election and won against then-Councilman Ross Kaul.

"I want to thank everybody very much for the opportunity to serve here, and I look forward to hearing from each and everyone of you, because I really do believe we need citizen-led government," said Shewbert. "You guys need to let us know what your vision is for the city, and it is our job to try to get there."

Kaul, who was on the council for two terms, also was recognized in the meeting for his work and dedication to the city.

"The recognition I've been receiving tonight has just been tremendous to me, but it's my honor, really, that I've had the opportunity to serve you folks," said Kaul. "I love Norcross, I'll always be around here, and I thank you for allowing me to represent you for my two terms as an elected official."

Hixson, who served as mayor pro tem last year, was re-elected to the position for 2013.
