Norcross Art Fest Spotlight: Kay Davis
Patch is continuing its series of art fest vendors with mixed-media artist Kay Davis.
The Norcross Art Fest is just around the corner for Oct. 6-7, and Norcross Patch is profiling different vendors for the 2012 festival.
A mixed-media artist from Georgia, Kay Davis says she loves color and describes her work as "whimsical" and "bright." Before the annual fest, Patch asked her about her inspiration, pieces of work and heroes.
Under what genre is your art classified as? My art could be classified as wearable mixed media folk art.
How would you describe your art to a complete stranger? I am in love with color would describe my art as whimsical and bright with a touch of shabbiness.
How long have you been producing art? I have been producing art for over 20 years.
How did you first get started in art? I got my start when I took an oil painting class with my sister for fun. She turns out to be one of my art heroes and was very talented creating her first oil painting on a 3x4ft canvas at age 12.
Who are your other art heroes? I also love the work of Teesha Moore.
What inspires you? I am inspired by the colors and textures that I see in everyday life and by emotion.
What is your favorite piece in your own collection? Why? My favorite piece in my collection is a mermaid painting that I did years ago because she lives in another world and reminds me daily to believe in life and myself.

Where do you live? I currently live in Blythe, Ga., with my loving husband, two dogs and eight chickens.
Are you a full-time artist, or do you have another occupation? I am a full-time artist
How many times has your art been featured in the Norcross Art Fest? My art has been featured at the Norcross Artfest for the last four years.
