Man Accused of Trying to Persuade DDS Employee to Issue Fake ID

A Nigerian man is accused of attempting to persuade an employee at the Georgia Department of Driver Services in Norcross to issue him a fraudulent driver's license.

Osamuyimen Ediagbonya, 32, of Lilburn, has been arrested on charges of bribery, hold for immigration, and making false statements.

According to a news release from the DDS, the man approached a driver examiner at the customer service center and attempted to obtain a driver’s license without presenting the proper identification, residency and testing requirements as required by Georgia’s homeland security licensing program SecureID.

The employee immediately alerted DDS fraud investigators, who conducted a thorough investigation and substantiated the fraud, leading to Ediagbonya's arrest April 17.

“This is a testament to the ethical dedication that is characteristic of DDS’ driver examiners. We are sworn to ensure security and conformance to departmental policies and state law,” said Commissioner Rob Mikell. “I also commend the DDS Fraud Investigative Unit for their swift and thorough investigation to substantiate the crime.”

Ediagbonya was booked into the Gwinnett County jail on an $11,400 bond. He has not been released and awaits immigration verification.
