Inside the Police Reports: So, Tell the Story Again?
A Norcross man arrested on aggravated assault charges kept changing his story when he spoke to police last week.
Things got unnecessarily long when a man kept changing his story in an aggravated assault case involving him and his roommate.
Around 7:25 a.m. one day last week, Norcross police were dispatched to the 500 block of North Norcross Tucker Road because of a domestic dispute. According to the police report, one party was locked inside his bedroom and the other was outside the door holding a knife.
Police arrived to find a bedroom window open and a man standing outside, and a knife was found on the floor outside the bedroom inside his home. The other officer found another man, his roommate, inside the home.
According to the man outside, his roommate had knocked on his door several times that morning. When he answered the door, the roommate threatened him with a knife, asking him how he got in because he apparently didn't have a key.
While pointing and shaking the knife at him, the roommate said he had to be out by the 4th of next month. The victim closed the door, locked it, and immediately called police.
When questioned, the roommate kept changing his side of the story. At first he said nothing happened between the two, and he had no idea why the knife was outside the bedroom door. He said he was unsure of what happened because he had been cutting juice in his room. He also denied talking to the other man that morning.
On the second try from police, the roommate redacted some of his statement and said he spoke with the man but didn't have a knife. He couldn't explain why the knife ended up traveling down the hallway from his room, so police asked him a third time what happened.
The roommate then told police that he went to the other man's bedroom, and he had a knife in his hand as they spoke. He doesn't admit to threatening the man with the knife, but at one point, he dropped the knife to the floor.
No contact was made between the victim and suspect, but the roommate was under arrest for aggravated assault.
