Homeowner Outwits Burglar

Police say they identified a suspect after he logged onto Facebook in another home.

An area woman pulled into her house Tuesday morning to find a strange car running in the driveway. When she peeked inside, she spotted a burglar.

The woman thought fast, taking the keys and a wallet from the running vehicle, then staking out her house from down the street. She called the police as she watched the man load items from her home into his car. Once he realized that the keys were gone, he took off on foot, according to a Gwinnett County Police release.

Officers responded to her call on the 4900 block of Riverlake Drive in Peachtree Corners and conducted a search of the area on the ground and with a helicopter, but the suspect was not found.

At 3:30 p.m. the same day, another house about 1000 yards away reported a break-in. A resident came to her Rebel Ridge Court home and found that someone had entered the home and left puddles of water on the floor. “It appeared that someone used clothes from her dresser to dry off,” said Cpl. Jake Smith in the release. There are a number of small lakes in the area where the suspect could have been hiding out, according to Smith.

A digital camera was found in the house that did not belong to the resident and a laptop was left on. “Upon checking her computer, she discovered that an unknown person had logged into Facebook,” the release stated.

Gwinnett Police said that the ID cards and description from the first victim matched the Facebook account. They have issued an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Trevor Jones, who is still at large.

Anyone with information about Jones’ whereabouts should call 911. Anyone with information on Jones or these crimes should call detectives at 770-513-5300

Yes call the police, but good quick thinking to take the keys, and glad to read that she had the courage to DO something about the situation and not just be another spineless coward and end up being another witless victim.
