Gwinnett County Authorities Report A Possible Drowning at Lake Lanier
A man was last seen wading in the water at about 6 p.m. Saturday, but crews were unable to locate victim. Search will resume Sunday.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services were working a possible drowning at Buford Dam from about 8 p.m. Saturday Night. Attempts to locate the missing person were unsuccessful and the incident was turned over to the Department of Natural Resources to resume the search Sunday morning.
According to Lt. Eric Eberly, spokesperson for GCFES, firefighters responded to a report of a missing swimmer in the water at Lake Lanier just after 8 p.m. Saturday night. A group of people reported a friend was last seen wading in the water at about 6 p.m. He reportedly could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket.
“A quick search of the area by swift water personnel located what looked like a person’s body under the water out of reach from the crews,” Eberley said in a press release. “Command quickly called for assistance from Hall County’s Dive Team.”
Eberley said despite a search by GCFES swift water team and the Hall County dive team, the victim was not located. The search was called off for the night and the DNR will resume at about 9 a.m. Sunday. Eberley said Gwinnett County crews would be assisting with recovery efforts.
