Girl, 8, Freed After Three Hours Stuck in Pool Vacuum Line

The incident happened in the unincorporated Doraville area of Gwinnett County.

An eight-year-old girl whose arm was stuck in a pool vacuum line for more than three hours was pulled out safely Tuesday night after 11 p.m., according to Gwinnett Fire & Emergency Services.

According to Lt. Eric Eberly, spokesman for the fire department, firefighters found the girl at 8:24 p.m. with her wrist stuck in the line at a pool located on the 1700 block of Winter Brook Court, in the unincorporated Doraville area of Gwinnett County. The firefighters were dispatched to the incident at 8:15 p.m.

“Crews acted quickly calling for the proper equipment and [helping] keep her up above the waterline,” Eberly said in a press release emailed at 12:06 a.m. Wednesday.

Georgia Search and Rescue Team and Technical Rescue Team units extracted the girl, who was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with a portion of the PVC pipe still on her arm.

She was removed from the concrete pool at 11:24 p.m., according to Eberly.
