Three football players for Greater Atlanta Chrisitan School officially committed to colleges Wednesday for National Signing Day.

The Spartans include team captain Andrew Lewis, wide receiver Peter Whiteneck and offensive lineman Daniel Yoon.

Lewis, who was the first to sign at the GAC event in the Student Family Center, committed to the Virginia Military Institute. Lewis plays the tight end and defensive end for the Norcross team. He was injured early in the season but was able to finish the season strong and help the Spartans advance to the GHSA AA semi-finals, according to head coach Tim Hardy.

The team captain also was named player of the month by the Gwinnett Touchdown Club and received the Iron Spartan Award for his work ethic and dedication. Lewis has a 3.97 GPA and is interested in sports medicine.

Daniel Yoon was introduced next and signed to St. Anselm College, a Division II school in Manchester, New Hampshire, in Canada. The offensive lineman first started as a right tackle for the Spartans and is deemed an "important reason for the team's success in 2012," said Hardy.

Like Lewis, Yoon was honored as a player of the month by the Gwinnett Touchdown Club. He is known around campus for his contagious enthusiasm, vibrant personality, and recognizable nickname, "Panda."

Lastly, Whiteneck signed to the University of Pennsylvania, which has proud football tradition and was 2012 Ivy League champions. The wide receiver was named to the first team offense for the 2012 Georgia Sportswriters Association All-State Football Team.

Whitneck set new GAC single season records for receptions (57), receiving yards (1012) and receiving touchdowns (13), said Hardy. Out of over 400 teams in Georgia, he ranked 12th in the state for his receiving yards this season. He carries a 3.97 GPA and is interested in studying medicine.  He is the son of Thomas and Drusilla Whiteneck.
