FedEx Breaks Ground on Norcross Facility

The new FedEx Ground location is at Atlantic Blvd and Jimmy Carter Blvd.

A $55 million FedEx Ground facility is coming to Norcross.

Ground was broken this morning around 10 a.m., with comments from Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson, Commissioner Shirley Lasseter as well as Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.

The facility, which is just inside the Norcross city limits at Atlantic Blvd and Jimmy Carter Blvd, is set to open on September 12, with an estimated 240 employees and 75 independent contractors.

“If the stars align, there will eventually be 550 employees,” said Nick Masino, Vice President of Economic Development at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.

Johnson pointed out that despite being just 5 square miles, Norcross has a healthy mix of residential and commercial properties. “This adds to our economic diversity,” he said.

Deal said that this was a nice jumpstart for his first weeks in office. “Thanks for getting me off to a good start,” he said. “This is going to help me fulfill my promise of creating more jobs in Georgia.”

“Georgia has been a real hub for freight and logistics. We want to build on that,” Deal said. He later said that he was encouraged by the facility being a “ground up” facility that is built from scratch.

Chuck Warbington, Executive Director of the Gwinnett Village CID, helped Fed-Ex secure that location. He said that they couldn’t move into any of the empty business parks in the area because they need a large, continuous space.
