Donations Asked for Nick Jackson Memorial

A tree planting memorial is in the works for the Norcross High freshman who was fatally shot earlier this month.

A tree planting memorial is being planned to honor Nick Jackson, the Norcross High freshman who was fatally shot in his home earlier this month, and donations are being sought for the memorial.

Wende Lynn, a member of the Progressive Development Committee, sent out an email to PDC members saying that Norcross Neighbors and Lum Howell Neighbors have joined together to raise funds to plant a tree in honor of Jackson.

"Several people have wondered what they could do in the wake of this tragedy," said Lynn in the email, "and we thought that this would be a good way to honor Nick's short life."

The tree will be planted in one of the city parks, Lynn explained, and the city has already approved two sites for the tree. The family will choose which location they prefer.

"Our hope is to have the tree planted by the end of February and additional hardscape/plantings/plaque in place for a dedication service sometime in March," said Lynn.

While the details on planting, location and a service date are still being solidified, donations for the memorial are being accepted at the following address:

Norcross Neighbors
197 Lake Dr.
Norcross, GA 30071

If sending a check, make it payable to "Norcross Neighbors" with a note mentioning the Nick Jackson memorial.

Nice idea Wende, it really shook us up to have this happen bascially in our backyards.
