Diamond DeShields to Play in U17 World Championship

The U17 team marks the third U.S. national team for the Norcross High basketball player.

Norcross High basketball player Diamond DeShields will be playing in the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship this summer, according to ESPN.

The U17 team is the third U.S. National team for DeShields, a junior at Norcross. The offense guard also won gold medals with U.S. teams for the U19 world championship team in 2011 and the U18 Americas championship team in 2010.

She's among the six "newcomers" whom USA Basketball named to the U17 squad Sunday, says the article.

The 12-player team will be playing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from Aug. 17-26.

Earlier this month, DeShields announced that she is committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels after she graduates from Norcross.

She also helped the Lady Blue Devils score a spot in this year's semifinals, but they lost against the undefeated McEachern High 64-61. Norcross had won the previous two state titles.
