The Norcross Weekend Planner
They're not all Cinco de Mayo-related, but they all fall on the same weekend.
While there will be lots of Mexican-themed festivities happening in the Norcross area on Saturday for Cinco de Mayo, other events will be going on, too.
Before all the celebrations Saturday, check out the Spring Fling & Yard Sale happening at Lucky Shoals Park Community Center in the morning. Inflatables, games, crafts and vendors will be available, most for free or a minimal charge from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Check out gwinnettparks.com for details.
Then, for lunch and dinner, head to the drinking establishments. Frontera restaurants all over the country will have music and food and drink specials, so don't expect anything less at Norcross' Indian Trail location. The Tex-Mex hotspot will be serving 32-oz. margaritas and coronas in keepsake glasses for $15; specials on jello shots and draft beer; food combinations starting at $5; and a fajita party platter for $40. A live DJ will also be on hand to set the right mood to par-tay.
For something less over-the-top and more relaxed, stop by Zapata in Historic Downtown Norcross for $2 Coronas, $6 margaritas and $2 Tecate drinks.
Not in the mood for Mexican? Iron Horse Tavern is having Cinco de Derby, a celebration fusing the Kentucky Derby with the Day of the Battle of Puebla. Patrons can purchase $5 raffle tickets for a chance to take home a 55-inch TV if the No. 5 horse wins the derby, and a hat contest will be going on with a $55 gift certificate going to the best hat in the bar.
There'll also be specials on margaritas, mint juleps and Dos Equis. A band will play at 5:55 p.m., but the bar's usual Saturday karaoke will commence at 10 p.m.
45 South Cafe will also be having a disco night at 8 p.m. with funds benefitting Norcross Schools. Bring those dancing shoes for some drinks, food, prizes and tunes. Tickets are $10, but $5 in advance.
On Saturday and Sunday, the North Atlanta Trade Center will host Eastman's Gun Show, a massive exhibit of new and used rifles and shotguns, gun dealers, knives, ammunition and accesories to go with the toys. Admission is $8, but kids under 12 get to visit for free. Check out eastmangunshows.com for more info.
