The Norcross High School football team has been named the High 5 Sports Team of the Year for 2012.

Hundreds attended and cheered at the ceremony Wednesday in the school's cafeteria. The award was presented by Gil Tyree of Fox 5 Atlanta's High 5 Sports.

"It's awesome for the kids and the community," head football coach Keith Maloof told Patch. "They deserve it, and they did what they needed to do. I'm very proud of the community because they've done so much for us."

"The team put so much time into it, and the committment it takes to do this, it's just nice to be rewarded at the end of the season," said assistant coach Corey Richardson.

Last Saturday marked the historic win for the Blue Devils against Lovejoy High that led Norcross to win their first Class AAAAAA state champion title. Norcross had an undefeated season with 15 wins.
