Alcohol a Factor in Fatal Buford Hwy Accident

An Atlanta man died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash this weekend just outside of Norcross.

An accident that occured early Saturday morning just outside of unincorporated Norcross resulted in the death of a 43-year-old Atlanta resident. Gwinnett Police say that alcohol played a role in the fatal collision.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 27, Luis Chauca-Morales was travelling on Buford Highway, attempting to turn left on Global Forum Boulevard in Doraville, just south of Norcross. Chauca-Morales failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a car, according to a police release.

The passenger in the Chauca-Morales car, 43-year-old Mario Villa-Anguerro, sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center where he later died as a result of those injuries.

Police say that it is "believed that alcohol was a factor in this accident."

Chauca-Morales was charged with Vehicular Homicide in the 1st Degree, Hit and Run and DUI.
